Ali was a gift to my friend Ali after I learned she was pregnant with her first baby. I wanted to honor the beauty that is the female, and to me, she embodies the glory of femininity. In this piece, the diamond with the daisies sprouting from it is meant to evoke the womb. The apple and the orange represent the sweet fruit that becomes swollen and holds the precious seed. The clock hiding in the background is meant to remind us of the biological clock so many women hear ticking.
